Baked Jerk Sweet Potato Fries

Baked Jerk Sweet Potato Fries

I am definitely the kind of person that prefers sweet potato fries over regular fries. Call me crazy, but there is just something about that sweet and salty combination. I love when the fries are crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside. It kind of reminds me of the steak fries at Red Robin. I loved how thick, crispy, and hearty those fries were. The best part about making your own fries is you can decide how big, thick, or thin you want them. The seasoning on these sweet potato fries just adds perfectly to compliment the sweetness.

Of course salt is the most important ingredient in my opinion to add in the seasoning. Then add in a few different savory spices, some dried herbs, and a touch of sweet spices to finish it off. It may sound like a lot but the pairings with all the herbs and spices compliment each other so well. I was inspired by the trader joes jerk seasoned plantain chips because I love the flavor and just a touch of spice. To make these sweet potatoes healthier I baked them in the oven. I used avocado oil spray, due to the high smoke point, to coat all the potatoes. This ensures they still get nice and crispy on the outside. I used white sweet potatoes I got at the asian market, but any version of sweet potatoes will work. Of course if you are not a sweet potato fan, this seasoning will go great on regular potatoes.

This recipe would make a great appetizer or side dish with any kind of protein. I love dipping them with a typical french fry dip, ketchup. Something about the sweet tang of ketchup with the crispy fries is just a classic comforting flavor. I could also see them being delicious with a creamy dressing like ranch or even with some extra tang like honey mustard. Honestly so many dressing would be a great addition to these sweet potatoes. I will say I loved snacking on them just as is because they are just that good, but who doesn’t love a good dipping sauce. If you make this recipe with white sweet potatoes this would be a great way to sneak some veggies in to kids as well to trick them into thinking they are regular fries. It is just such a delicious recipe and I hope you enjoy the flavor the seasonings add!
