I remember having puppy chow for the first time when I lived in Colorado. My friends gave me it to try while we were on a ski trip, and I felt like I had been missing out my hold childhood. From then on puppy chow was a yearly Christmas treat in the Johnson household.  You just can’t go wrong with a snack that has peanut butter and chocolate! Since this snack is pretty indulgent, although I could still eat a whole bag of it, I thought I would make some vegan puppy chow cookies out of this brilliant combo.
The cookies start with the same base as my vegan chocolate chip cookie dough. I subbed peanut butter in for the coconut cream to add a little extra peanut butter flavor. To that base, I folded in some chex for a little crunch, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips (optional if making vegan). Once the batter comes together, separate the dough into balls. Definitely try that batter because it might be my favorite over the baked cookies. Bake the dough balls and light dust with that well known powdered sugar coating. Then the vegan puppy chow cookies are ready to devour.
I always seem to make puppy chow around Christmas time to give as gifts. I thought this would be a fun way to change up the recipe. They are indulgent cookies that have all my favorite things in one treat, AKA peanut butter and chocolate.  These cookies can be made vegan and gluten free. Although they are a little healthier, the vegan puppy chow cookies would make a great christmas gift or treat for coworkers, family, and friends. Now for the real question, do you call the snack muddy buddies or puppy chow? Let me know in the comments and hope you enjoy! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
